When the data matters more than the storage device
Losing business documents, photos or project data can be far more costly than the failure of the drive itself. The first priority is to prevent further writes to the medium. Blind repair attempts, installing software on the same drive or formatting it again can reduce the chances of recovering files.
What should you do after data loss?
- Stop using the device. Do not save new files or install programs on the affected storage medium.
- Turn off the computer or storage device. If the drive makes unusual noises, do not start it repeatedly.
- Do not format it again. A system message asking you to format the drive does not mean you should accept it.
- Contact us before making another attempt. A short description of the situation will help us choose a safer approach.
What storage media do we recover data from?
- HDD and SSD drives,
- USB flash drives, SD and microSD cards,
- external USB drives,
- partitions after accidental formatting or deletion,
- Windows, Linux and macOS systems and popular file systems.
More difficult cases
For cases requiring a specialist laboratory, we can refer the storage medium to a partner specialising in advanced data recovery. This prevents risky attempts when laboratory conditions are clearly required.
How does it work?
Assessment
We determine the type of failure and the history of the storage medium.
Protection
We minimise the number of operations performed on the original.
Recovery
We work on a copy or safe representation of the data whenever possible.
Verification
We verify the recovered files and provide the result.
Frequently asked questions
Can data be recovered after formatting?
Often yes, provided that a large amount of new data has not been written after formatting. Every case is different, however.
Is data recovery from an SSD the same as from an HDD?
No. SSDs work differently, and mechanisms such as TRIM can significantly reduce the possibility of recovery.
Should I run recovery software myself?
If the data is important, it is safer to consult the case first. Incorrect use of recovery software may overwrite some of the data.
